The Introduction to Crop Liability Claims Handling is a part of the ACA’s Farm Ranch Certified Specialist certification program. This module will introduce you to three important subjects: 1) Crop Insurance Policies, 2) the Identification of Crops and Crop Losses, Farming Practices, and the Staging of Crops, and 3) the Investigation, Evaluation, and Settlement of Crop Claims. It is approved for 2 CE hours in DE, FL, NM, and TX. Submission instructions are provided at the end of your course.

In this course you’ll come face to face with:

  • The two major types of crop insurance, the role of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), the insurance plans offered by the FCIC, and how to read and interpret the crop declarations page, i.e. the Schedule of Insurance;
  • Activities involved in the investigation of a crop claim, e.g. taking statements, gathering, facts, and assessing the damage, as well as:
    • peculiarities involved in the identification of crops;
    • gathering and inspecting important production records;
    • taking tissue or soil samples;
    • identifying farming practices and the staging of crops;
    • how to conduct appraisals during the inspection of a loss:
    • how to determine expected yield and identify issues that affect crop pricing;
    • how “saved” expenses are factored into the ultimate evaluation of a claim; and,
    • how a crop claim is settled.
