License Requirements

Iowa law specifically allows someone applying concurrently for an appraiser and adjuster license to take a joint examination and, if all other requirements are satisfied, obtain both licenses.

Property Appraiser License Requirements

IMPORTANT: Iowa requires appraiser applicants to have 3 years of experience or training in building construction, repair, or estimating property damage before they qualify for the license. Unless waived by the Iowa Insurance Commissioner based on other professional qualifications, applicants must also have at least three years of qualifying professional experience.

Because individual qualifications can vary, we recommend reviewing the current requirements with the Iowa Insurance Division before purchasing the course or scheduling your exam if you are unsure whether your experience meets the state’s licensing requirements.
