About the Iowa Appraiser Exam

The standalone Iowa Appraiser exam (12-IA-24) is administered by Pearson VUE. The current exam consists of 50 scored questions with one hour allowed for completion. The exam fee is currently $44.

Iowa Appraiser License Requirements

Passing the state exam is only one part of qualifying for an Iowa insurance appraiser license.

Iowa requires applicants to have experience or training in building construction, repair, or estimating property damage. Unless waived by the Iowa Insurance Commissioner based on other professional qualifications, applicants must also have at least three years of qualifying professional experience.

Because individual qualifications can vary, we recommend reviewing the current requirements with the Iowa Insurance Division before purchasing the course or scheduling your exam if you are unsure whether your experience meets the state’s licensing requirements.
