Xactimate Certifications

Are you considering Xactimate Training & Certification? Good for you! Proficiency in Xactimate is one of the most important skills a claims adjuster needs in their toolbox. We see too many new adjusters wait to learn the software and end up in the field struggling with their first claims. Taking professional training, especially training dedicated to handling insurance claims like our Tactical Xactimate Webinar, will save you time and money in the long run.

Once you feel confident operating Xactimate, getting your Xactimate Certification is a great next step. Not only is it a resume booster, but certification gives potential employers confidence in your skills and lets them know you are a qualified professional. But what is the certification, and how do you get it?

Xactimate Certification

There are three levels of Xactimate Certification. Each certification level increases in difficulty and serves as a precursor to the next level, although you do not have to take all three or start at level one. The exams require you to complete an estimate using the Xactimate functions that correspond with the exam level.

Our Tactical Xactimate Course, taught by an Xactimate Certified Trainer and working insurance adjuster, will prepare you to pass the Level 1 or 2 Certification exams. (In our experience, Level 3 is reserved for those insurance adjusters who’ve been working for years and have experience working the most complex claims.)

Xactimate Proficiency Certification – Level 1

This exam focuses on your foundational understanding of the software’s basic features and functionalities. It’s designed for individuals who are new to Xactimate or seeking to solidify their fundamental skills. Topics covered in Level 1 certification typically include navigation within the platform, setting up projects, creating estimates, adding line items, and basic sketching.

The Level 1 Certification Exam is broken into the following three sections:

  1. Sketch and Scope Lab: In this hands-on lab, individuals use their own locally installed Xactimate (or online version) to create an estimate. The estimate consists of a Sketch and scope scenario that must be completed accurately. It will be used to answer the questions found in the next section.
  2. Practical Exam: Individuals are asked 34 questions about the estimate created in the Sketch and Scope labs. The questions are specific to the scope, quantities, dimensions, and pricing from the estimate. This section of the exam is timed.
  3. Knowledge Exam: This timed portion of the exam consists of 14 multiple-choice, true/false, and matching questions. Questions are related to specific learning objectives.

Xactimate Proficiency Certification – Level 2

Level 2 builds upon the knowledge gained in Level 1 and delves deeper into some of Xactimate’s more advanced features and capabilities. Level 2 certification is ideal for users looking to expand their proficiency and tackle more complex estimations and tasks. Topics covered include advanced sketching techniques, handling complicated estimating scenarios, incorporating macros and templates, and understanding database management. Certified Level 2 users have the skills needed to handle intricate projects with efficiency and precision, making them valuable assets in the insurance claims industry.

The Level 2 Certification Exam is broken into the following three sections:

  1. Sketch and Scope Lab: In this hands-on lab, individuals are required to use their own locally installed Xactimate (or online version) to create an estimate. The estimate consists of a Sketch and scope scenario that must be completed accurately. The estimate will be used to answer the questions found in the next section.
  2. Practical Exam: Individuals are asked 40 questions pertaining to the estimate created in the Sketch and Scope lab. Questions are specific to the scope, quantities, dimensions, and pricing from the estimate.
